Hello all,
Welcome to The Bookworm’s Fantasy – a blog ran by a 19 year old English Literature and Creative Writing student named Mel Snow, based in the city of Birmingham, UK.
As the title suggests, this blog will mostly revolve around reading, creative writing, university and more. I aim to create interesting and entertaining blog posts, such as book reviews, creative writing tips, my personal experiences and opinions.
About Me
Reading and writing are my two passions in life, and I’m using this blog as a platform to launch myself into the world of creative writing. I’ve just finished my first year at university and managed to achieve a 2:1, which I’m over the moon with! This coming year in university, I’ve chosen to mainly specialise in Gothic and Victorian literature. I’ll keep you updated and let you know how they go!
I’m very keen to go into journalism after finishing my degree, particularly music journalism. I’ve already had experience in the field, having undertaken a few different work experience opportunities at magazines, and have had many articles and blog posts published. I’ve written for Moving On magazine a number of times. Many of my articles have been published in their magazines over the last 2 years or so. I’ve also written blogs for their website, interviewed members of the public and been featured as their “Guest Editor”! I’d love to write on the side and maybe become an author one day.
I’m not just into books and writing though. I’m very into music and concerts, having seen a number of different bands live. I even worked at Glastonbury festival this Summer, which was an amazing experience! That’s why I’d love to fuse my passions for music and writing together – I’d love to write gig reviews as a career.
The Blog
For around a year or so now, I’ve been debating the idea of whether or not to start a blog. Many of my course mates at university have blogs, and I have no idea how to stand out against the millions of blogs out there. But I’ve come to realise that blogging is important for young hopeful writers such as myself, and I need to just go for it!
I’m aiming to post a blog at least once a week, hopefully twice a week during non term-time. As I stated above, the blog will mainly be focused on reading and writing. However, I’m also going to address other issues and topics, such as music, concerts, mental health and university life. I’ll also let you know if I do anything else exciting over the Summer before heading off back to university this September!
Take care, and thanks for reading.
Mel x
