Joanna is an avoider. So far she has spent her adult life hiding bank statements and changing career aspirations weekly.

But then one night Joanna hears footsteps on the way home. Is she being followed? She is sure it’s him; the man from the bar who wouldn’t leave her alone. Hearing the steps speed up Joanna turns and pushes with all of her might, sending her pursuer tumbling down the steps and lying motionless on the floor.

Now Joanna has to do the thing she hates most – make a decision. Fight or flight? Truth or lie? Right or wrong?

 

 

About the Author

Gillian McAllister lives in Birmingham, UK. She has worked in the Law field as well as writing. Her first novel, ‘Everything But The Truth’, was published in March 2017. ‘Anything You Do Say’ is her second novel and is due to be released on 19th October 2017.

 

 

My Thoughts

‘Anything You Do Say’ is a sensational Psychological Thriller with a thought-provoking morality at its core. It follows the protagonist Joanna, who must make a difficult choice when faced with an unexpected crime. But which path will she take, and will she do what’s right?

The structure of the novel is unique and brilliant. Two consecutive narratives take place at once – the novel alternates between “Conceal” (Jo hiding her crime) and “Reveal” (Jo revealing her crime). Throughout the novel, both narratives gain momentum and Jo is forced to make some almost-impossible decisions, and almost risks losing everything/everyone in her life. Both narratives come crashing together at the end, in the most satisfying, but still ambiguous, way.

There’s so much suspense created throughout. This novel is bursting full of twists and turns – you think you know where the narrative is going, but then McAllister throws in another curveball and events take a completely different direction. It was impossible to predict what was going to happen next, which meant I was left on the edge of my seat at all times!

This is a fantastic novel, and I urge you all to read it. I’ll be posting a follow-up full review of the novel on my blog soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that! A remarkable read.
