Hello everyone, and welcome back to The Bookworm’s Fantasy! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. Today’s post is going to be a recap of all the books I read in 2018. Goodreads has a feature called “my year in books” which I thought was really fun, so I thought I’d show you what my reading year consisted of! If you’d like to add me on Goodreads, you can find me here. So, here goes…
My Goodreads Reading Challenge.
So unfortunately I didn’t hit my reading goal for 2018. But I’m trying to tell myself that it’s okay considering everything that’s gone on this year.
I spent the first half of 2018 in my final year of university, studying English Literature and Creative Writing. It was really tough going. The workload was huge, and I had so much to do all of the time! I wasn’t required to read as many books for my course, instead I had a lengthy independent dissertation to complete. I graduated in July, and was over the moon with my achievement.
Unlike the majority of people that I graduated with, I actually started working full-time immediately after graduating. That was really tough at first too. I moved out of my parents’ house and into my own flat, and had to get used to working 9-5 every day with very little free time for reading. I was quite lax with reading whilst I got used to work, often being too tired or lacking motivation to read in the evenings. But I started to get used to things after a couple of months and made more of an effort with my reading.
And to top things off, I pretty much spent almost the entirety of December very ill. I got better in time for Christmas, luckily, but the rest of the month I was bed-bound and unable to do anything, including reading. When I finally got better, I wanted to focus on spending Christmas with my family and overall just having a good time, so I didn’t do much reading then either. I had a very long, unintentional break from reading – but in a way, I think it’s a good thing. I’m so much more excited to read now in 2019!
This year, I have lowered my Goodreads target to 60 books. I think this is a much more realistic goal for me, considering all the changes that have happened recently. I really hope to beat this target! This year I hope to spend much more time blogging and put more effort into my blog posts. Thanks so much to all of you who continue to read my blog – your support means so much to me and it keeps me going.
